About Us

Totem Hair was founded in 2014 to serve the many people in London who are extremely short on time. Often there isn’t a good hairdresser close to home or work to get a haircut conveniently. Many people also prefer a quieter, unstressful environment, where they will get their hairdresser’s full attention.

All Totem Hair hairdressers hold full public liability insurance and can do men’s/women’s (in fact, all gender identities’) hair equally well.

Candice Zen

Candice Zen, Director, is a hairdresser and barber who has been working in central London since 2008. She originally trained at the Vidal Sassoon Academy and went on to further training at the Toni and Guy academy and the Aveda Institute while working at central London salons. She has also trained in advanced barbering under leading barber-educators Erik Lander and Gary Machin. Candice is very versatile with her haircutting skills and believes that great hair should look and be (almost) effortless. Outside of Totem Hair, she works in a central London salon on Fridays and Saturdays where she does a lot of colour and, in summer, is also out on the road styling hair for weddings. Hairdressing is her passion, but is also her second career (she has a biology degree, also an interest in zookeeping).

Mako is a superb barber and hairdresser. She originally trained in hairdressing in Paris, then moved to London where she trained and worked as a barber at a gender-neutral barbershop. She now works at a super-hip salon in Dalston as well as with Totem Hair. She has an excellent artistic eye and can be found styling hair at fashion shoots when not in the salon. Mako is a great listener and always makes sure her customers look and feel great.

“Great haircut, friendly and knowledgeable plus extremely convenient. Can’t recommend enough.”
